Environment Friendly Packing Materials
Thinking about moving with the green theme? How about using environment friendly
packing materials?
The green revolution has become the new hype of today. People from many places around
the world are now engaging themselves in the massive drive to redeem the ill effects
of some materials that humans have used and disposed indiscriminately on the environment.
With environmental preservation awareness spreading widely, everyone is now doing
it in their own small ways. Regulated by local governments, households are implementing
waste segregation and collecting recyclable materials have become a norm.
More people have been paying attention to reducing carbon dioxide emission. Businesses
are implementing the green living lifestyle. Moving companies today are adopting
environment friendly packing and procedures.
We know that movers use boxes to pack up the furniture and protect properties from
damage. The boxes are usually made of paper, which are derived from trees. The rampart
of environmental advocacy is recycling and re-using these materials.
Moving companies that are sensitive to the environmental problems that we are currently
having are stepping up their recycling practice. They are utilizing used boxes in
their shipment. Instead of using new boxes every packing time, some green moving
companies use new recycled boxes instead. They offer special reduced prices for
clients who prefer using recycled cartoons.
Most moving companies place green moving as one of the options, which environmentally-aware
customers appreciate well. The use of plastic molded boxes and crates are regulated
and fully monitored in terms of its use and reuse. This saves the lives of as many
trees as possible as the demand for paper would be reduced.
One popular packing material is the bubble wrap. Although it protects effectively
electronics and appliances from bumps and scratches, the main component of this
material is polyethylene and the process of making it is more hazardous than safe.
Recycling and proper disposal of this packing material must be observed.
Instead of this plastic wrap, you can use old newspaper. If you scrunch the papers
into balls, you have a greener alternative when you pack your things. Using newspaper
cushions can still provide ample security to your property during shipment.
Another alternative is getting some used cardboard boxes, Cut them into strips and
then roll each strip up. These rolls can also be a good and environment friendly
alternative than bubble wraps.
If you are frequently using packing foam peanuts, you must know that the material
is primarily made from polystyrene. If you are going to burn them, it will produce
toxic fumes which can harm you and the environment as well.
The good news is, there are biodegradable packing peanuts available in the market.
Instead of using the polystyrene kind, use the packing peanut made of sorghum and
corn starch. At least they are much safer.
If you want more natural and easily biodegradable materials for packing, try using
popcorn or pea straw. Popcorn is as springy as foam but it is also easy to dispose.
Eating while packing is no problem to you right? Pea straw can also be a natural
cushion and it can just be grown in your backyard garden.
Moving companies are not turning a deaf ear on the environmental issues of today.
As good stewards of your furniture and household property, movers are also making
an advocacy to be good stewards of the environment by promoting green packing.
