Packing Lamps
Preparation is the key to a smooth and stress-free move. An integral part of preparation
is to decide whether a particular item is essential or not. There are numerous items
that get accumulated over a period of time and some of them may not be useful at
all. These items can be donated or discarded before moving to save on space. Also,
there is no need to spend time and energy to pack these unwanted things. This simple
step can make moving a lot easier.
Packing lamps is tricky because they come in different sizes and shapes and it can
be difficult to accommodate them with other goods. So, packing them requires more
preparation time. The first step is to make a list of all the lamps that have to
be moved along with their approximate height and width. Based on these dimensions,
appropriate boxes have to be bought. It is better to buy boxes from a moving company
because they will sell good quality ones that are designed to withstand travel.
They can also be purchased from companies that sell specialty moving boxes. Though
you may end up paying a little more money, it is worth it.
Once the boxes are ready, remove the lamp's wire from the electric socket and allow
the bulb to cool. The bulbs have to be removed from the lamps and packed separately.
They should be wrapped in at least two layers of bubble wrap and the ends should
be sealed to prevent the bulb from breaking. The next step is to check if the lamp
can be dismantled. Usually, tall lamps can be dismantled and reassembled again and
if your lamp has that option, then go ahead and disassemble it. Otherwise, place
the lamp inside the moving box with its base down. Wrap it with bubble wrap, old
clothes, foam, newspaper and other packing materials. The box should have as much
cushion as possible to support the lamps. More than one lamp in the same box is
not recommended.
You can even use two boxes for extra protection. Add a good amount of cushioning
material to the inner as well as the outer box and seal the ends of both the boxes
with packing tape. Also, the outer box should be wrapped with plastic tape to prevent
the box from tearing during transit. Finally, label the box as fragile and also
mention that it contains lamps so that the movers know to handle it with care.
A good alternative to this cumbersome procedure is to take help from moving companies.
They can pack and unpack your contents for a certain fee and this will save you
a lot of delay and stress.
