Richmond Hill Moving Companies

Richmond Hill is located in Southern Ontario, roughly halfway between Toronto and Lake Simcoe. It is part of the Greater Toronto Area or GTA, and is about 20 kilometres (12 miles) north of the downtown core of Toronto. Statistics Canada reports that it is one of Canada’s fastest growing moving populations, estimating that by the year 2021, the Town’s population will reach 200,000.

It is a town rich with history, marked by its commitment to change, development and community. Richmond Hill’s association with the Duke of Richmond started in 1819 with his visit to the area. The town crest bares his famous roses, as does the town motto “En la rose, je fleuris”, French for “Like the rose, I flourish”. In the early twentieth century—the time of the Duke of Richmond’s visit—Richmond Hill was known as the “Rose Capital” of Canada. One indication of Richmond Hill’s strong sense of historical roots stems, no pun intended, from their floral flare—they were a winner in the 2003 National Communities in Bloom competition, with a special mention about their floral displays.

In recent years Richmond Hill is better known by its unofficial motto: “A little norther, a little nicer.” This warm sense of community is also reflected in the town’s mission statement: “The Town of Richmond Hill Council and staff are committed to providing exceptional public service to our community”. This mission statement was approved by Town Council as part of an overall Strategic Town Plan focusing on bringing people together to build a sense of community, respecting the environment and inspiring change. One tradition which helps maintain this strong sense of community is the popular yearly “Concerts in the Park,” a series of concerts that are held every summer with a specific theme.

The town itself has some notable geographic particularities. Richmond Hill is at a much greater elevation than other communities within the Greater Toronto Area and is at the greatest height above sea level throughout the York Region, excluding areas closely alongside its borders. The uneven melting of the glacier responsible for forming the town has resulted in great variance within Richmond Hill’s geography, most notably the Oak Ridges Moraine. The Moraine is an elevated region of loose soil which comprises a significant portion of the land area of the town. It allows the collection and natural filtering of waters, as well as hosts a rich variety of biodiversity. The town’s high water table level, however, poses some problems for construction.
